Why BIM / REVIT?

What is Building Information Modelling (BIM)?

BIM stands for Building Information Modelling which is a “process for creating and managing information on a construction project across the project lifecycle.” The main output of this process is a Building Information Model which contain large quantities of data from various stakeholders. Traditionally, architects would design and create models and once they are accepted by the wider team, they make edits based on the feedback they obtain. Its a long, back and forth process. Building Information Modelling makes all the information live. It has a central database that contains all the project data, such as structure, mep, civils, quantities…etc. This platform allows everyone to share information and data on the same platform.

What is the difference between BIM and REVIT? 

BIM is a process while Revit is a tool to leverage that process. BIM is a methodology and Revit is a single application built for Building Information Modelling with features for the three main disciplines of the AEC industry (Architectural, MEP- Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing, Structural engineering). There are many alternatives to Revit that have BIM compatibilities such as ARCHICAD, Vectorworks, RHINO BIM and even SketchUp.
